Sleeping In The Poppy Fields And you think that all the remembering Would bring them back alive And all the adoration would help them to survive Our war heroes lie dead in the poppy fields Our war heroes lie dead in the poppy fields Death is the only winner in war Death never yields And all our thinking and tributes to be paid Would not bring back one single life No soul there to be saved Our war heroes lie dead in the poppy fields Our war heroes lie dead in the poppy fields Though the rivers of blood no longer ebb and flow The memory of our war heroes still refuse to go I was watching TV in the run up to the November memorials and poppy day. I suddenly felt uneasy at how so often war is glamorised and made to look almost good and acceptable. From what I have seen and learned about war I do not see any glamour, nor do I see any real winners. I only see pain death and anguish. These men & so often young boys are not "sleeping" in the poppy fields they are DEAD gone forever. And no amount of admiration and no amount of remembering will bring one single soul back. That said the best thing we can do is remember the truth and reality of war not through rose tinted glasses. War is evil - war is painful - war is violent - and death is final. We did not win any of the wars - we just lost so many young brave people forever.
